2nd Grade Online Lesson
Geometric Understanding
Teacher: Ms. Tucker
Email Address: Ctucke10@my.westga.edu
Office Hours: Tuesday and Thursday 9am to 11am.
Phone: 000-000-0000
Instructional Goals:
The goal for the course is for students to be able to describe different geometric shapes. Students should be able to identify and describe the attributes of all 2D shapes. After identifying the shapes, students should be able to partition the shapes into equal amounts.
Standards that will be taught:
MGSE2.G.1 Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
MGSE2.G.3 Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.
Objectives:
- Identify 2D shapes by the number of sides and angles they have.
- Describe the difference between quadrilaterals and polygons.
- Explain the vocabulary terms halves, thirds, and fourths, while also being able to identify the different fractions.
When the course is over all students should be able to answer the following questions:
- How can I identify 2D shapes based on their attributes?
- How can I compare and contrast 2D shapes?
- How can I use equal parts to partition shapes into halves, thirds, or fourths?
Expectations:
- Students should complete the work within the course themselves. Other people should not complete student work. Copied work will result in the failing grade of an F for the course.
- Be engaged! Students should spend 30-45 minutes a day working on the lesson for two weeks.
- Students will need access to technology such as a computer, Chromebook, or laptop to complete this lesson. Students will also need all of the following to complete the lesson with success:
- Internet Access
- PowerPoint, Word, Google Docs, or Google Slide.
- Access to log in and work through Canvas
- ClassLink Access (this can be obtained by emailing me for your school code if you do not already know it.)
Time Frame:
Students should spend 30-45 minutes a day working on the lesson for two weeks. The class schedule is below:

Grades:
All assignments are due by the last day of the lesson. All assignments must be completed by the last day or a failing grade of 0 will be placed into the grade book.
The class average will be based on the score below:
90-100= A
80-89.99= B
70-79.99= C
Anything below a 70 is failing.
Course assignments and quizzes will be weighed as percentages of 100:
